i'm thankful for...

it's november...and what is the one thing you look forward to all month...THANKSGIVING! so i've been challenging myself everyday to think about and post about something i'm thankful for in my personal life...

SOOO... i thought i'd take it a step further (and more fun!) and blog a little about what i'm thankful for in my fashion life...

these are things i swear by. items that define MY style. hope you enjoy a little friday night randomness. ;)

(and OF COURSE there will be links to where you can score yourself some of my fashion loves! that'd be extremely unfair if i made you do all the work yourself. :))

i'm sooo thankful for... (these are in no specific order, just in how they came to me)

1. cowboy boots. i love mine. they're amazing.

2. leggings. i wear them almost daily, they go with EVERYTHING.

3. hollister and levi's jeans. they're fantastic. they fit like a glove.

4. peep toe heels. they make any outfit so sexy!

5. volumizing mascara. it's the only makeup item i need.

6. vintage. i love the idea of taking something old and making it new again.

                                                                            Modcloth

7. cardigans. in all shapes and sizes.

8. big earrings. they complete any outfit.

9. roomy handbags. mine holds my life in it. i always consider getting a smaller bag... but i just can't do it.

                                                                  JC Penney - $29.99

10. plaid. i'm drawn to it... in everything. i think it's the country girl in me.

11. and the fashion industry as a whole. it's a part of my being. part of what makes me, me. i've been in love with it for a long time and truly enjoy everything about it.

i could go on and on... but the list could become very long. and boring. and who wants that??

with this i challenge you... what are you thankful for? in your personal life? professional life? and of course, your fashion life?

happy thanksgiving dolls! don't forget what this holiday is all about! <3<3

Wardrobe Remix... 11.14.10

Yes, I do have a lot of clothes but I have a few things in my closet that are always a staple. These items have become my "go to" pieces. Take the first thing, my slouchy graphic T... I have worn this with jeans to go out, a skirt, sweatpants, leggings, or even as a cover-up. They're nice things to have for when you're having those "fat" days but still want to look kind of cute. It's key to always keep your wardrobe fresh by wearing the same pieces different ways. Most of us don't have the moola to run out and buy something new for every new event or outing... so doing a little "wardrobe remix" is an awesome thing to try... see if you can do it in your own wardrobe... xoxo. (and please excuse the horrible pictures of me. ;))

what we're wearing vs. what they're wearing... 11.12.10

This was one of those looks that I just LOVE on the models but I'm still not sold on whether I like it on my body type. I have been wanting to try the shorts with tights look for a year or so now, but I am just now getting around to actually putting something together. I pulled from these two looks because well...I liked aspects of both of them but neither of them completely. Namely...I don't really do jackets! I always feel very confined in them...due mainly to the fact that the girls are quite large and so are my shoulders!

Vest outfit is from Ruche
Vest - no longer available
Blouse - $46.99
Tights -  $9.99
Leg Warmers - $9.99
Boots - $159.99

outfit total: $229.96
( the other picture was from refinery29 but a similar jacket and blouse were found at Ruche)

white ruffled tank - Marshall's $10
cropped vest - Forever 21 $15
denim shorts - thrifted $2
textured tights - Target $5
biker boots - Target $30

TOTAL: $62.00

So, my thoughts on my version? I like the concept but I just didn't feel comfortable in it. The vest was the biggest issue for me because it was just a bit too tight and made me feel like the fat rolls were hanging out! (Jackie assured me that they weren't and that it looked good...but I see different things in my head!) Looking at it now, I really would have rather had darker jean shorts than these but given that they were $2...I couldn't say no!

I think this outfit works well-ish and would be good for a girls' night out or a concert with a sweater or light jacket over top? Still not exactly what I was going for but there is a big difference between a size zero (yeah, that's NOT a size, BTW!) and a size 12! I did what I could with my curves! ;-)

Product Review: The Falsies Volume Express Marcara by Maybelline 11.10.10

First let me start out with saying that I kind of a mascara junkie. I am always looking for the next big thing to fall in love with. It seems that I try some new gimick, fall in love with it maybe 50% of the time, love it for a month or two, and then move on to the next big thing. SO...who better to do a review of The Falsies Volume Express Mascara by Maybelline ($5 at major retailers nationwide)?!?!

The first thing I noticed is that it looks a lot like the Colossal Volum' Mascara from Maybelline that I fell in love with a few months back (that one I actually went through a whole tube and bought a new one...a first for me!) except that The Falsies is hot pink instead of bright yellow. Well...anything that is hot pink if good in my book. :-)

The biggest difference is that this brush is thinner and curved. The mascara formula itself went on smoothly and without clumps, making my lashes longer and thicker at the same time. I naturally have long lashes but this really made them long...we are talking, brushing the lenses of my glasses long! The formula is thick and black which is the way I love it.

the before (without makeup):

and the after (shown with 2 coats):

(excuse my terribly grown-out brows. I was growing them out for a "threading review")

I don't know that I would say I look like I am wearing false lashes, but they do look long and gorgeous! This will be my go-to mascara...until something new comes along to peak my interest!

what we're wearing... 11.8.10

There's not a lot to say about this outfit... it's one of those lazy day things that I just threw on because it's comfy and warm. Two things I love about this outfit... My headband (duh) and my boots. I love the headband because it's such a bright punch of color, not that you can really tell in this photo but it's pink and green. I LOVE it. And my boots... They just add a touch of sophistication to an outfit... I like the whole riding boots look and when my mom and I (I get my obsession for shoes from her) found these two seasons ago on clearance we couldn't pass them up... Lucky for me they were too big for her so I don't have to share!! (Yayyyyyyyyyy!!!!)

This was kinda a bumming it day for me. I didn't have any shoots so I figured I could go a little more comfy with my clothes. Let me say that I am loving that thermal leggings are coming in as a trend and not just something to wear to bed. What does that mean to you thrifty fashionistas out there? It means, it is time to dig through those drawers of pajamas and lounge wear and see what will work for everyday wear. This pair of thermal leggings was from the clearance rack in the Target pajama section like 3 years ago. The downside to these leggings? They tend to stretch out a bit through out the day so just be warned. ;-)

My other fave from this outfit? My hat!! Sometimes I just have days where I don't like my hair (and since I am growing it out, those days are more and more common lately) and since it's really too short for a cute ponytail, a fashionable hat is the way to go. I made this one in about 30 minutes with about 1/2 a skeen of yarn while watching Gossip Girl. Not too shabby!

I really love my... 11.4.10

I LOVE these boots... anyone that knows me well knows that these cowboy boots are my favorite thing. I actually got them off of  Ebay for $1. They're vintage. I love them. I would wear them everyday if I could. (I know I can, but they don't really go with EVERYTHING, unfortunately.) I will wear these long after cowboy boots go out of style, mark my words. :)

Forever 21 - $30.80

what we're wearing vs. what they're wearing... 11.3.10

I came across this photo on Refinery29.com the other day and immediately knew I had to re-create it for myself! So cute and casual yet girly at the same time!

Green Jacket - Current/Elliot $368
Lace Dress - Free People $108
Gold Necklace - Elizabeth & James $175
Black Tights - Falke $39
Black Boots - Sam Edelman $195

Her Total:  $885 (this is estimated)

Men's workshirt - Hollister $40
Lace Dress - thrifted $3
Black Tights - Target $5
Black Boots - Target $30

Amy's Total: $78

I already had a bunch of the stuff in my closet (including stealing my hubby's Hollister military inspired workshirt...SSSHHHH!) so all I really needed to find was the lace dress. During one of my many weekly thirfting trips, I saw this long ivory lace skirt and knew that it would work perfectly as a dress for this look. All I needed to add was a ribbon for a belt (due to the fact that the girls are huge which makes me look huge without a belt over this shapeless dress), tights, and boots and we were good to go. I wish I had some lace-up granny boots like the ones that she is wearing in her version but I can't seem to find any that I like so far in my searching. Sucks wearing a size 11 shoe, sometimes! All in all... I LOVE LOVE LOVE this outfit!!
