jackie's 'no makeup' makeup look.

Who doesn't love a little nod to Gossip Girl? Since the show began I've always been intrigued by Leighton Meester's style. She can pull off so many different looks and always look flawless. So I decided to try to attempt the 'no makeup' makeup face... couldn't be that hard, right?? And it's not... it just took a little trial and error... as does everything in the fashion/beauty world (we've all learned that the hard way, haven't we?? ;-)). Below the video is a list of the products I've used and the picture that started it all...
Hope you love this look as much as I do!

Products used for this look...

  • Physicians Formula Concealer Twins (green/light)
  • Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush (whipped strawberries)

What we're wearing... 9.29.10

Let's talk about my shoes first. I LOVE them. And by love them, I mean I'm obsessed with them. My wonderful Momma bought these beauties for me and I would seriously wear them every single day if I could. Every girl needs a great pair of black heels or wedges... well, these are mine.

Onto the rest of the outfit... you can't really tell in the picture but my shirt is a light purple and white stripe and I love it with this skirt. I'm big on mixing patterns, the key to getting it right is to stay within the same color family and make sure they aren't competing patterns. You don't want to wear three different patterns with two of them being large floral prints, they will overwhelm the outfit and it will just be a disaster. I stuck with a bright poppy floral for the skirt (which I LOVE LOVE LOVE because I got it uber cheap at Kohls and it fits PERFECTLY!!) and then a more muted, understated stripe for the shirt... they match but aren't too matchy/matchy... I HATE that! It's just not me.  :-)

Take a risk, dolls... try wearing two different patterns... it's fun and you'll feel like a true fashionista, I promise! ;-) (take pictures when you do and send them to us!!)

This outfit was framed around this fun little dress that I got on our girls weekend to Put in Bay over the summer. We ran into a little surf shop to get out of the rain (who dared to let it rain on our girls weekend anyway?) So of course, I had to hit up the clearance rack. This adorable dress was just my size and 75%...SCORE!!!! One problem though, there was a little rip in one of the straps (likely from someone attempting to try on a much too small dress). Knowing that the little rip would be an easy fix, I quickly snatched it up!

So...for today's outfit, I needed a little more warmth for the brisk morning air so I added this pink sheer striped shirt from the Miley Cyrus line at Walmart (also on clearance!), some over the knee gray socks, and my slouchy boots and I was good. Throw on a scarf (from this adorable little boutique in ye ol' Pickerington) and we are good to head out for a day of shooting!

what we're wearing vs. what they're wearing... 9.23.10

jackie vs. lauren conrad

Elie Tahari Jacket $268
Frenchi t-shirt $20
J. Brand Skinny jeans $158
Marc Jacobs black flats $195
Chanel bag (price unknown)
Lauren's total = $790

jackie's total = $64

Lauren Conrad is by far one of my favorite people to watch for up and coming styles and trends. She always pulls off the classy, effortless look so well. I thought it would be fun to take this look of hers and try to replicate it... I'd say I did a pretty good job. I was so excited last year when I found this vintage Dior jacket at Goodwill... that's one hell of a find if you ask me!! The rest of my outfit is stuff I've had forever but just reinvented into this look. It's so easy to do... and it's a fun way to give old clothes a new life. Maybe this will inspire you to do the same thing... happy hunting! ;-)

{amrie girl - jackie}

amy vs. gwen stefani

leopard leggings $320
Vena Cava T $85
Ash biker boots $265
Cosabella bra $46
Gwen's total = $844

Amy's total = $66

As most of you know, I am obsessed with Gwen Stefani and everything that she touches! When I was browsing the web looking for pics of her,  I came across this photo of her with Gavin on the street and I knew I just had to make it work for myself. The leggings were already part of my fall wardrobe, the boots I remembered I had stashed away in the basement from way back in my raver days (yes...the boots are coming back as part of the biker boot trend!), and the graphic tee...well, I knew a trip to Goodwill was instore for me! Sure enough, I found this tee on the rack in 30 seconds flat! A little snip with the scissors  and we were golden! We added a little (okay a lot) of black eyeliner and mascara a la Gwen and the staple red lipstick (trust me this was a hard one for me considering my flair for the glossy natural lip).  I am pretty pleased with the look. It definitely channels Gwen and I still feel completely and totally like myself! :-)

what we're wearing...9.22.10

You know how some days you wake up and just know exactly what you want to wear? You lay in bed picturing the whole outfit down to the last detail and can't wait to jump out of bed and put it on? Yeah...this was NOT one of those days! We were taking the boys to Cosi for a "fieldtrip" today and nothing felt right to me. I tried on several different things before just throwing this together before the children started screaming. Yes, I like the outfit overall (and LOVE my Zac Posen for Target dress) but I am aware that I do look a bit "pumpkin-ish"! Hey...it's the first day of fall...what do you expect?

{amrie girl - amy}

I had the same type of morning... I didn't want to get out of bed. So when I finally managed to do so and after fighting with my cat to get into the bathroom... this is what I wound up with. I feel like the poster child for Target today...until I looked at Amy's outfit... and EVERYTHING is from Target. So she has me beat!! But hey, they have good sales, so who can complain? The two things about my outfit that I do actually love are my glasses... No, I don't need them. But I like to have them as an accessory when I want to change up my look. I see them as a pair of earrings, or a necklace...some days they just complete the ensemble. Lastly, I am in LOVE with my boots. Anyone that knows me, knows this and I'm sure is quite tired of seeing me in them.... but I don't care ;-) They're vintage, I got them for an amazing deal, and they're cowboy boots. What's not to love?!

We Tried It! {The Mood Nail Polish Trend} 9.21.10

So...after hearing about the "mood nail polish trend" in a couple of our style magazines, we decided to track down a couple bottles and make it our first review on the blog.

I chose to try out this blue version that we found at Meijer for $3.99. I was a little concerned about the quality of a bottle of nail polish that was marketed quite like this (they could use some better marketing for the labels as far as I am concerned) but I figured for under $4, I would give it a try. My first thought when applying the polish was that it went on very thin and watery. This was definitely going to need a second coat...if not a third! The polish dried very quickly, which made it much easier to get through the multiple coats. I ended up with three coats while watching Gossip Girl and drinking a glass of red...not a bad way to spend a Monday night!

When the polish dried, I looked down and noticed that the tips of my nails were a dark blue while the nailbeds were a bright blue. It almost looked dip-dyed which was so fun! I, of course, immediately jumped up and went into the bathroom to run some hot water over one hand and cold water over the next. Sure enough...one hand was bright blue, the other dark blue! I rushed out to show my husband who, sadly, was not nearly as thrilled about this as I was!

You can see the cute little dip-dyed look in the photo above. Sadly...when I woke up in the morning, not 12 hours later (after ONLY SLEEPING mind you)...this is what they looked like.

Maybe a top coat would help? But then again, then you probably wouldn't have the fun of dipping your hands in water to watch it change colors! Boo...

{amrie girl - amy}

type your stuff here....

I had originally read about this nail polish trend in the June issue of Cosmo. They had tried a similar brand that could be purchased online. However, I need immediate gratification... so I googled 'mood nail polish' and found some at Claire's for $4.50. I chose a peachy/coral shade. It claims that when I'm "excited" it should be the bright coral color and when I'm "bored" it should be a very light peach shade...Yes, it does change colors... but not based on my mood. More so based on the temperature. I dipped one foot into cold water and the other in hot water... thus causing the color change. I've had the polish on my toes for about three hours now and haven't seen a change since I dipped them in water. Yes, it was a cool idea... but I wouldn't waste my $4.50 on this brand of mood nail polish again. At least not to put on my toes...

what we're wearing vs. what they're wearing... 9.20.10

amy vs. selena gomez

   Selena Gomez
Dress - Couture, price unknown
    Necklace - Adele Marie $78
    Tights - Wolford $48
    Shoes - Topshop $75
Selena's total = $201 (without dress)

Amy's total = $48

Okay so, it was a week before New Year's Eve and I had nothing to wear to Jackie's New Year's Eve party. I wanted to wear something fun and fresh with a lot of me thrown in. Jackie and I were brainstorming ideas when a Selena Gomez video came on the Disney Channel and there it was...my perfect outfit!! I fell in love and immediately got to work on finding the perfect items to make it work. A super cute little dress (from the Miley Cryus line at Walmart) paired with some stand-out tights and we were half way there. Add a little bling by putting not one but two pearl necklaces that I happened to find at Walmart as well...and we were good to go! Love, love, love! I got so many compliments on my fabulous outfit...and it was ALL under $50!
{amrie girl - amy}

 jackie vs. billabong

 Billabong girl
Jacket - $80
Necklace - unknown
Tank - $34
Floral denim - $48
Billabong total =  $162 (without necklace)
Jackie's total = $41

I saw this ad this weekend when I was flipping through Nylon. I loved it. I then remembered that I had floral leggings that looked almost IDENTICAL to the denim worn in the ad...however, I got mine for a fraction of the cost a while ago at JC Penney. I love them, they just aren't the easiest thing to wear. After further looking at my outfit I kind of wished I'd have worn my denim jacket and a different graphic tank instead... but it was a little bit of a grab and go morning for me... So this is what I ended up with. It works, just not as perfectly as I had imagined in my head...

My boots are a vintage find... I die for adorable vintage boots. They're my favorite things.

AND don't you LOVEEE my necklace??? It's a new Amrie Boutique creation... I'm a bit in love with it. It also looks super cute with a flower attached to it or worn as a bracelet. This necklace (and other versions of it) will be up on Etsy and our facebook page soon!

my favorite week. ever.

I have been following New York Fashion Week very closely this year... my email, twitter, and facebook have been blowing up about all the shows! I have seen sooooo many amazing collections... I'm dying for Spring 2011. Here are a few of my favorite looks...

I love love love this pastel tea cup dress... I sense this will be a little difficult to find... in which case I'll put my little seamstress fingers to work and I WILL be making one for myself. But really, how perfect is this??

Oscar has ALWAYS been a favorite of mine. And this season he did not disappoint. I'm dreaming about this dress. Love white. Love lace. So romantic but could be worn SOOOO many different ways. I will track this down in a budget friendly version... so stay tuned... it will happen!! ;-)

AMAZING collection. Western and Indian influence... LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I'm loving this rusty, burnt cantelope color. I can't wait to wear it... and the shoes... *sigh* love.

Spring 2011 Fashion Week was fabulous! If only I could have been there in person...oh, a girl can dream can't she? (I will get there one day before I die! ;))

However, I can't wait to translate these pieces into looks for the everyday fashionista... So excited!!

{amrie girl - jackie}

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

Those of you who know me personally, know that I am a huge fan of Gwen Stefani and this line did not disappoint! Sadly, I can not afford any of the looks in this line but in the everyday fashionista style, I will take some of these ideas and find a way to make them work with my budget. Here are a couple of my faves!

LAMB Spring 2011

Stay tuned to see how these looks from Gwen's LAMB line infuluences my daily looks...for less!

What we're wearing... 9.17.10

I am loving my outfit today! These socks are to die for!! I saw this lace skirt at Target in the Disney Sonny Munroe line (from Sonny with a Chance on Disney Channel) and I just had to have it...even though it was in the little girls' section! Here's a little secret for those of you out there who are a size 12 and under, don't hesitate to browse through the little girls' section for some fabulous finds. You can get some great deals on super cute stuff. Just stay away from anything too fitted (as they are a no-no for post-puberty hips and boobs!) I love my little black booties...yes, I really got them at KMART!! It was a special BOGO event which made them even better!
{amrie girl-amy}

I have been searching EVERYWHERE for gray slouchy boots... and I have FINALLY found them!! I scored these amazing boots at Marshall's for only $35. They can be worn super slouchy or pulled all the way up over my knees, absolute perfection!!  I was beyond excited (yes, thats all it takes ;)) I am completely loving boots with skirts and dresses this season...and I have become slightly obsessed with these short, stretchy, and as Amy likes to call them my "booty" skirts. My goal is to have one in every color, but this cutie I found at Old Navy for quite a steal... $7... I so should have stocked up! I love them because you can dress them up or dress them down. So versatile and so cheap. LOVE THAT!
